Easter Seals Autism Therapeutic Day School
AVA Consultants (while with a prior firm) worked with Easter Seals to develop a unique program for this one-of-a-kind facility --- a not-for-profit school for students with autism. In a project such as this, it is imperative to understand and communicate the constituents’ unique issues to the design team so that a functional and affordable design can result. For this project, such issues included student sensitivity to noise, light, and touch, as well as teachers’ needs to have a flexible environment for each student that can change from day to day.
The challenges were addressed by providing indirect classroom lighting; acoustic isolation and insulation between classrooms and HVAC system components; and flexible modular classroom equipment.
We also worked with the client throughout their fund-raising activities to provide the necessary collateral materials for successful fund raising efforts.
