The University of Chicago Booth School of Business

Chicago, Illinois

The Booth School, with Anne Voshel’s involvement, conducted an international design competition to select Rafael Vinoly Architects for the new Harper Center. Vinoly’s central feature was a Winter Garden supported by four steel pipe column clusters that support glass funnels above creating a large open interior gathering space. The Winter Garden extends upward 6 stories within the building center and is surrounded by vertical glass walls. The building houses 10 classrooms below grade and parking in the lowest level. The upper three floors contain faculty offices connected by open stairs running between the floors. The first and second floors contain a food service and dining area, a student lounge, study room, and other staff and student function spaces. A central outdoor plaza creating pathways to adjacent buildings.
